June 2010 City Church Update & Prayer Letter

June 24th, 2010

Dear Prayer Partner,

This week, City Church will worship together for the 42nd week since our public launch on September 13th, 2009. In many ways, City Church is still an infant who is just learning to sit up and on the verge of crawling.

On any given week 60 to 80 men, women, and children come to worship with us at the downtown YMCA. Many of our visitors continue to come from our target area, York City. I just finished preaching a 10-week series from the Pauline epistles on the first principles of the faith (sermons are available at www.citychurchyork.com). Since the last communication, we were blessed to see one young woman come to faith in Christ. Much work is still needed to be a faithful witness in our community. Please pray that God would allow City Church the privilege of seeing the Gospel bear fruit in conversions in York City.

This year we have made good progress towards strengthening our discipleship process. In the fall we plan to retool our small groups to better equip our folks for ministry. To that end, we recently conducted a training seminar on biblical counseling to better understand how growth and change happens. Please pray that God would bless our efforts in disciple making and leadership training.

God has continued to graciously provide what we need financially to make it for 2010. Your prayers and donations have gone a long way in meeting that need. We have faced some significant challenges in other areas but the lack of financial stress has been a real blessing from God. Please pray that God continues to provide financially in 2010 by raising up additional financial supporters.

Church planting is a challenging task in so many ways. Pastorally, this year has been exceedingly heavy. I am encouraged, weary and hopeful at the same time. Please pray that God would bring Gospel-based peace and growth to City Church.

I am encouraged to think that we have been doing this work for about a year. The church is growing at the steady pace you would expect a newborn to grow. God is good! I pray that this summer brings refreshment from God for all of us. Thank you so much for your prayer and financial support in launching City Church.

Grace and peace in Jesus Christ,

Aaron Anderson

Pastor, City Church York
